The Virginia Opossum (Didelphis virginiana), commonly known as the North American Opossum, is the only marsupial found in
North America north of the Rio Grande River.
The Water Opossum (Chironectes minimus), also locally known as the Yapok, is a marsupial of the family Didelphidae. It is
the only member of its genus, Chironectes. This creature is found in the freshwater streams and lakes in Mexico, Central and
South America to Argentina, and is the only living aquatic marsupial. It is also the only living marsupial in which both sexes
have a pouch.
Monodelphis is a genus of marsupials in the family Didelphidae, commonly referred to as short-tailed opossums. They are found
throughout South America.
The Brown Four-eyed Opossum (Metachirus nudicaudatus) is a pouchless marsupial of the family Didelphidae. It is found in different
forested habitats of Central and South America, from Nicaragua and to Paraguay and northern Argentina. It is the only species
in the genus Metachirus. It is a strongly nocturnal, terrestrial and omnivorous animal, feeding on fruits, small vertebrates
and invertebrates.
