Sporting de Gijón

Real Sporting de Gijón, S.A.D. is a Spanish football club from Gijón, Asturias. Founded in 1 June 1905, it currently plays in Spanish first division. Known as Rojiblancos because of their red and white striped jerseys, their home field is El Molinón stadium, the oldest professional football field in Spain, in use since at least 1908. Sporting de Gijón is chronologically the sixth-oldest club in La Liga 2009-10.

Gijón

Gijón, officially Gijón / Xixón, is a coastal industrial city and a municipality in the autonomous community of Asturias in Spain. Early mediaeval texts mention it as "Gigia". It was an important regional Roman city, although the area has been settled since earliest history. The name was originally applied to a small peninsula presently referred to as Cimadevilla, literally "top of village," between two beaches, one of which has a recreational port today.

Sporting de Gijón B

Real Sporting de Gijón B is the reserve team of Sporting de Gijón. They currently compete in Segunda División B - Group 1. Unlike the English League, reserve teams in the Spanish football league system play in the same football pyramid as their senior team rather than a separate league. However reserve teams cannot play in the same division as their senior team. Therefore Sporting B are ineligible for promotion to Primera División.
