Oviedo is the capital city of the Principality of Asturias in northern Spain. It is also the name of the municipality that
contains the city. Oviedo, which is the administrative and commercial centre of the region, also hosts the annual Prince of
Asturias Awards. This prestigious event, held in the city's Campoamor Theatre, recognizes international achievement in eight
categories.
Oviedo is a city in Seminole County, Florida, United States. The population was 26,316 at the 2000 census. As of 2006, the
population recorded by the U.S. Census Bureau is 30,618. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Real Oviedo, S.A.D. is a historically important Spanish football team from Oviedo. Founded on March 26, 1926, they were the
first team from Asturias ever to play in the Primera División. It is playing the 2009-2010 season in Segunda División B -
Group 2, having been promoted from Tercera División. They play in blue shirts and white shorts in the Nuevo Carlos Tartiere
stadium, which seats 30,500 spectators.
The University of Oviedo is the only public university in Asturias (Spain). Its activity is spread along region, with teaching
campuses and research centres in Oviedo, Gijón and Mieres.
The Principality of Asturias is an autonomous community within the kingdom of Spain, former Kingdom of Asturias in the Middle
Ages. It is situated on the Spanish north coast facing the Cantabrian Sea (Mar Cantábrico, the Spanish name for the Bay of
Biscay). The most important cities are the provincial capital, Oviedo, the seaport and largest city Gijón, and the industrial
town of Avilés.
Asociación Deportiva Universidad de Oviedo is the football team of the University of Oviedo. Founded in 1962, it plays in
Tercera División - Group 2. It's stadium is Estadio Universitario de Oviedo with a capacity of 4,000 seats.
